Despite all Chris did to Paige, she had a hard time letting go of their marriage. She chose divorce on decision day, but sadly didn't stick to that.
The drama of Chris Williams and Paige Banks overshadowed all the other couples on season 12 of Married at First Sight. They were clearly not a good match from day one, and things only went downhill from there. Chris received most of the blame for his bad treatment of Paige, but people also felt some of the blame lay on Paige after she continued to give Chris seemingly endless second chances. Chris almost managed to talk her out of divorcing him on decision day, but Paige finally chose to do what was best for herself and walk away, although that wasn’t the true end of their relationship.
Fans couldn’t understand how Pastor Cal Roberson, Dr. Viviana Coles, and Dr. Pepper Schwartz, with their thorough examination, managed to miss every single one of Chris’ red flags. People began to doubt the experts and questioned Dr. Pepper’s qualifications, as she has been with the show since the beginning and should have known better. Many viewers became convinced, because of Chris Williams, that producers have more influence over who is cast on the show than the experts.
Though Paige ultimately chose to divorce Chris on decision day, that turned out to not be the end of the relationship. When they appeared on the reunion show hosted by Kevin Frazier, they revealed the news everyone had feared: The couple decided to attend counseling to try for the hundredth time to fix their marriage. Luckily Paige decided not to move in with Chris while they saw the counselor, and when things didn’t improve, she decided to continue with a divorce.
Since then, it seems Paige is moving forward with her life, while Chris can’t stop looking back. Paige has been very positive on her Instagram, thanking her mother for supporting her and even bringing home a new fur-baby, an adorable small dog named Cash. She also went on a date, giving Essence an exclusive to follow her, at least for part of the date. Fans are glad to see her healing and moving on after her painful marriage.
Chris, on the other hand, hasn’t moved on at all. He keeps defending his behavior online, though he never wins himself any new fans. Most recently, he promoted a Youtube interview with relationship expert Love McPherson where he said he was ready to talk about the good and the bad. In the interview, he made excuses for all his behavior, distributing the blame and saving very little blame for himself. Despite Chris promoting it with teasers for a week, the video was taken down shortly after it was posted.
MAFS fans will not soon forget Chris Williams’ behavior, especially not when he keeps bringing it up. Paige has apparently realized that a bad experience on a reality show doesn’t have to define the rest of her life. Until Chris can learn that lesson, he’s doomed to keep butting heads with couch critics. With some soul searching and work with a good counselor, Chris could change the behavior that left him labeled as the villain on Married at First Sight.
