In the final story mission in Dying Light 2, Aiden must choose to let Lawan detonate the bombs or try to save her, and there are major consequences.
There are various game-changing decisions that players need to make in Dying Light 2, including a high-stakes choice in the final mission regarding Lawan's fate. This final decision will affect the outcome of the game and the fate of Villedor as well as Aiden and Mia. In the last main story mission, "X13," Aiden has a final confrontation with Waltz and learns the truth about Mia and their past.
After the cutscene where Waltz explains the truth, Aiden will have to fight him. Waltz temporarily knocks Aiden down, then another cutscene plays where Lawan announces the missile launch process has begun. The Dying Light 2 quest continues with intermittent cutscenes as Aiden fights Waltz until Mia interrupts the battle and tries to give Aiden the key that will save the city. Unfortunately, Waltz destroys the key, which means the missiles need to be stopped another way.
Lawan volunteers to plant explosives on the missiles and detonate them manually in order to save the city. Waltz will argue that Aiden would have to give up everything he's been working towards and sacrifice Mia for the sake of the city. After the cutscene concludes, players will be left with Dying Light 2's final decision, and each choice has serious consequences to consider.
Consequences of Saving Lawan or Letting Her Die in Dying Light 2
Choosing to save Lawan will trigger a timed parkour sequence where Aiden must reach her before the timer runs out. Aiden will be automatically reset if the timer reaches zero, so failing the parkour sequence won't have any lasting consequences aside from having to repeat it. If Aiden saves Lawan, the missiles will launch and destroy Villedor. In this Dying Light 2 ending, Mia's fate is unknown, massive casualties will occur, and Aiden will leave the city.
If Aiden chooses to let Lawan detonate the bombs and destroy X13, she will move forward with the plan and sacrifice herself. However, it's still possible to save Lawan even when choosing to detonate. If Hakon was kept alive earlier in Dying Light 2, he will arrive to save Lawan just before the bombs go off. If Hakon is dead, Lawan will also die, but her sacrifice will keep the missiles from reaching the city and save a large number of people. In this ending, Mia will be sacrificed for the sake of the city.
Saving Lawan is considered the bad ending and letting her detonate the bombs gives players the good ending in Dying Light 2. Although Mia will die if Lawan detonates the bombs, Aiden will save Villedor, and Lawan may also be saved depending on earlier decisions. If the city isn't destroyed, the state of it will depend on if players sided with the Survivors or the Peacekeepers. The last decision in "X13" will determine the outcome of the story in Dying Light 2.
